Packing for your holiday

What to Pack

After unhurried days on board or adventurous days ashore, evenings at sea are always an occasion to look forward to. Just as every day brings something a little different so too does every evening, and to set the mood the dress code changes from night to night.

Evening Casual

Ladies: casual separates or dresses

Men: open-neck polo shirts and casual trousers (not shorts). A jacket and smart trousers can be worn but are not compulsory

Smart dark denim is also fine, but not trainers, football shirts or tracksuits

On a typical 14-night cruise on Ventura there are normally ten Evening Casual nights. This can include a 60s, 70s and or tropical evening on appropriate itineraries.

Black Tie

Ladies: glamorous cocktail dresses and gowns or a smart trouser suit

Men: a dinner jacket or tuxedo are the norm, but a dark lounge or business suit and tie can be worn as an alternative

On a 14-night cruise on Ventura there are typically four Black Tie nights. One of these will be themed as 'Black and White' night, so be sure to bring along your best monochrome outfits!

Packing for Children

On Black Tie or Smart evenings children should wear, as a minimum, Evening Casual dress, however on these occasions dark denim is not permitted.

Please ensure that your belongings are packed in locked suitcases as we cannot accept responsibility for any other types of luggage. Your suitcases will be subject to a considerable amount of handling, so we recommend that they are of sturdy construction. If you decide to bring a suit bag, this must be carried on board as hand luggage and only contain items of clothing. ** If travelling to/from the US by air, your suitcases should remain unlocked unless using a TSA approved lock. We accept no liability for the loss of jewellery, other valuables or money contained in your suitcases. You are advised to keep valuables, important documents and money either on your person or in your hand luggage.

What not to pack

For reasons of security and the safety of those on board you are not permitted to embark whilst carrying any of the following items:

• Firearms and ammunition, sporting weapons, replica firearms and explosive material of any kind

• Knives and all other sharp bladed implements that are capable of being used as a weapon (including Skean Dhu, ceremonial knives and swords)

• Flammable substances (petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners, etc)

• Items containing incapacitating substances that could be used to maim or disable such as gas cylinders. This does not include the small cylinders of compressed gas which are used in some types of ladies hairdressing appliances

• Any other item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon

• Passengers are not permitted to bring onboard irons. We have ironing stations in each of the launderettes or alternatively, you may take advantage of the pressing service available on board.

Please note: If you are visiting Barbados, arriving by air or sea, please be aware that it is illegal for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing or carry items made with camouflage material. Also for flights to/from Barbados, you cannot bring cigarette or cigar lighters, including butane, absorbed fuel (Zippo style), battery-powered and novelty lighters.
